Rail Skates

Rail skates, also referred to as “rail skids,” are heavy-duty devices designed to control the movement of railcars and locomotives on tracks. They act as car-stopping devices or low-profile wheel chocks, preventing unintended railcar or locomotive movement. Typically made from cast steel, rail skates are essential for railway safety and efficiency.

Cast-steel rail skates can be used as wheel chocks or as car-stopping devices for slowly moving freight cars. Skates are also a low-profile chock for idling locomotives.

Chocking skates for flush rail offer a tamper-proof chock for freight cars or idling locomotives on flat track. Cars can be rolled on to the skate and then parking brakes should be applied. Chock the other end of the car with a conventional wheel chock.
